Yamit Park Plaza Hotel (December, 2006)

The Yamit Park Plaza Hotel, located on Ha Yarokn St. in Tel Aviv, was the first hotel we ever actually considered leaving.

What Alitalia called "a room with a sea view and wireless access in the rooms", turned out to be a side room, with a view to the street. WiFi was available for a hefty charge, but what was unforgivable was the amazingly unfriendly reception.

In reality, "room with a sea view and wireless access in the rooms" was the only reason we why we decided to change our original plans to stay at the Olympia, across the road from the Yamit Park Plaza Hotel (next time we want even think twice).

Our room on the 16th floor was flooded over night, after heavy rain storm that night. We were then moved into another room, this time on the west wing. No view here either, and no body offered to move our stuff. In any case, there we were, again, exposed to the elements, when the storm still lingered on and winds came through the badly sealed windows.

On the 3rd day we came face to face with what we can only describe as one of the most obnoxious and unpleasant Israeli receptionist ever. We were greeted with "Yes." in reply to "Good evening", and "room number." when asking for a pass for GYM. At this point I could just not put up with S. Suggesting to him he was unpleasant, he replied, asking if that was the only problem. I assured him that was the case, and told his colleague we will be leaving the next day.

We asked to talk to the reception manager, but she was off. The hotel's marketing manager contacted us the next day. She apologized, confirming she had similar problems with the receptionist. She offered to evacuate us from the windy room, which in the mean time got sealed of (see the picture), and move us into the "executive suite".

We couldn't be bothered, but she insisted. The view from the executive suite was charming, and we enjoyed what was left of our stay in the Yamit Plaza, though the service at the reception remained one of the worst we have ever experienced anywhere, up to the minute we left.

We know we would never book with any of the "Park Plaza" hotels.
